Blairgowrie Residence Wins in HIA Eastern Region Awards 2017

Blairgowrie Residence – designed by BDAV Member, R L Watts Design, and built by Moorhouse Builders – was recognised in the HIA Eastern Region Awards, held at RACV Inverloch on Friday, 8 September 2017.

The project won Best Custom Home $750,000 – $1 million.

Ray Watts, from R L Watts Design, said: “The brief was to provide a contemporary design with connection to the coastal national park as well as private northern exposure for the outdoor living area. The materials had to be solid, hardy and tactile, with colours blending with the surrounds. The internal design had to be extremely minimalist with a relaxed feel. Rooms had to be zoned but still have an open connection with the inside and outside.”

“The very unique brief required precise planning for a site with several challenges. The passive views were to the rear, facing south-west and the living areas were orientated toward the front, to allow north light penetration. Privacy was a major consideration, so the main area of the house was set back a considerable distance from the street.”
